In 2003 four out of the top ten construction companies in the world were Japanese, today their position has been taken over by Chinese Construction firms with 5 out of the world's top 10 companies coming from China. The 5 Chinese companies are China State Construction and Engineering ranked 1, China Railway Construction ranked 2, China Railway Engineering ranked 3, China Communications Construction ranked 5 and China Metallurgical Group ranked 7. The combined revenue generated by these 5 Chinese construction companies in 2011 was $ 290 billion dollars.
