Latest Market news China's Poultry and Pork industry

*China’s Poultry Industry has been expanding by an average  of 5.5% each year over the last 10 years and is expected to maintain and even increase this growth rate in the near future as the income levels in China’s population increases.

*China increased its exports of Chicken meat and Chicken products to just over 190, 000 tons in the 1st half of 2012, the total value of these exports is US $ 760 million. China saw its Poultry exports increase by 9.9% since 2012 when compared to the same period for 2011. China’s biggest market for Chicken meat and Chicken products exports is Europe followed by Asia and its fastest growing market Oceania which sure a rise of over 77% for Chinese Poultry imports from the same period in 2011.

*The largest pig raising company in China the Wens group is investing a further a 50 million dollars in Pig breeding. The Wens group has stated that it’s prepared to invest the resources and energy into China's pig breeding market to help China meet its every growing demand for Pork. Wens would like to establish its self firmly as number 1 for Pig breeding in China improves its position on the international market.  

*Chuying Farming is building a RMB 177 million meat processing plant in Weishi Country in Henan Province. Once the new meat facility is competed its expected to be able to process 200 000 tonnes annually. It's expected that the new plant will employ over 2000 new workers and the company expects that the plant will recoup its investment within 4 years. The Weishi Country meat processing plant will mainly produce sausages, Ham and Chinese style cooking sauces. Once the plant is built it will greatly improve Chuying Farming distribution chain and greatly increase their viable growth.

*In the first 6 months of 2012 Chinese Companies greatly increased the amount of breeding pigs they imported to try and meet demand for pork in China. One example would be Chinese company Dabeinong which plans to invest RMB 5 billion in its pig breeding business. Zhengbang is looking to establish its self as the leading Brand in China for Pig Breeding by launching its Genmax brand. The Cofco group is planning to invest RMB 2 billion in creating and building a boar breeding plant and put the associated supply chain in place to be able to compete successfully in its domestic market and hopefully in the international market in the near future .

*It’s now estimated that there are 1.4 million pairs of Yellow feather grand-parental Boiler breeder Chickens in stock in China. China’s yellow feathered broiler industry has gone through rapid growth over the last 5 years; the main areas in China for this industry are in Guangdong, Guangxi, Anhui and Sichuan provinces.

*McDonalds is setting up a new processing center in Henan Province to create the Henan McDonalds cooked food facility. The new facility will produce over 200 000 tons of cooked food per year and it's estimated that this will produce over RMB 1 billion worth of food per annum. Once all the phases of the plant are complete then the Henan McDonalds cooked food facility will be Asia largest meat packing facility.

*China Telcom Wuhan branch has established an “Online Pig Production Disease Prevention Information Platform” which will help with the management of the Pig industry in the Wuhan Area. The platform will enable farmers to upload photos and videos to the platform therefore ensuring long distance supervision of the Pig industry.

*Up to RMB 900 million has just been invested by the Doyoo group in its Kaifeng Chicken meat processing plant in Kaifeng – Henan Province.  The processing plant started being constructed at the beginning of 2012 and it’s expected that the chicken meat processing plant will be completed by the end of this year. The total investment in this facility is expected to be RMB 2 billion. The plant is expected to produce 800 000 tons of chicken feed per year and in addition slaughter over 55 million chickens per year. The Doyoo group also states that 100 million chicks will be hatched each year and 20 000 tones of process cooked meats will be produced.

*The US giant Cargill Inc plans to invest US$ 250 million in a boiler chicken plant in Anhui province China according to reports. It's expected that the plant will be fully integrated and one of the largest of its type in China. If the plants as expected are fully integrated then it will include a feed mill, farms, processing plant and hatchery. The plant is expected to produce 65 million birds a year and therefore will be one of the biggest integrated plants in China.     

*China’s first Intelligent Sow Management system has been set up by the Shanxi Provincial Animal Husbandry Research and Development team it means that Sow’s swipe cards to eat by the placement of a transmitter in their ears. This system will enable better management of the sows to ensure they reach their optimum weight and will therefore lead to more efficiency in China’s overall Pig breeding industry.
